My experience of being 2014 showgirl

I entered the 2014 Coffs Harbour Showgirl competition as I was looking for a personal challenge. I am quite shy by nature and find it hard to speak in front of people so this experience was well out of my comfort zone and made me push myself and achieve new things.
I have been competing at the Coffs Harbour Show in equestrian events since I was 10 years old and I am most comfortable when I am riding my horse. I have watched many girls sashed as the showgirl over the years and it was an honour to be named as the Showgirl in the centenary year of the show.
I had just finished studying a Diploma in Events Management when the opportunity arose for me to enter the 2014 showgirl competition. The competition itself was a very enjoyable experience as it gave me the opportunity to meet new people and to push myself into things that I am not always comfortable doing.
The interview with the show committee gave me practice in interviewing skills and the centenary dinner gave me the opportunity to meet all the junior showgirls and the rest of the show society committee and many members of the Coffs Harbour community.
I have just had the opportunity to take part in a Showgirl “Boot camp” to prepare me for the Zone competition in a couple of weeks. This was a great opportunity and I met some of the other Zone finalists at this weekend. I am looking forward to going to the Zone finals and representing Coffs Harbour and our Show Society.
I would encourage all girls to enter the showgirl competition as it is a great opportunity and lots of fun.

Would you like to run some fun, educational and entertaining youth events at your show? The ASC Youth Group would like to invite you to sponsor your youth to attend our very first YOUTH TRAINING SEMINAR Where: Hawkesbury Showground, Clarendon, NSW When: Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd November 2014 Saturday afternoon: ? Youth Training Seminar will cover topics such as: o How to run youth events at your show (Young Farmer Challenges, Junior Judging competitions. etc) o How to attract youth to your show society and keep them involved o How to use social media effectively o How to approach businesses for sponsorship o How to involve more youth in the ASC Youth Group o How to use the Junior Judging computer program It will also feature the ASC Youth Group General Meeting Saturday night: A night of socialising and partying! Sunday morning: Sydney Ute Muster! – The ASCYG will be running the Windsor Holden Sydney Ute Muster. A great chance to learn how to run one for your own show as well as help us out for our first EVER Ute Muster! We are estimating approximately 100 utes in attendance, sound off and ute pull competitions to name a few and a whole morning of crazy fun!! The ASC Youth Group is encouraging each show society to sponsor as many youth attendees as possible. Sponsorship amount and how it is used is left to your discretion. Hendra Update

HENDRA UPDATE: We have taken advice from Vet and changed our Hendra vaccination rule for 2014. Vaccination will be essential for horses over 12 months of age who will be stabled at Coffs. If attending daily, vaccination will not be essential this year. ANSWER TO WEANLING QUESTION: Coffs Harbour Show stipulates that only horses over 12 months of age who will be stabling on grounds must be vaccinated. Note that if there was a Hendra case diagnosed these unvaccinated horses would not be allowed home until the quarantine ended.
